CiteLLM for ChatGPT
Get answers from your PDFs in ChatGPT, with every citation highlighted in the source.
Add CiteLLM to ChatGPT
Find CiteLLM among ChatGPT’s apps and connect it. When you write a message, choose CiteLLM so ChatGPT uses it for your PDF.
Try it, then sign in
You can try CiteLLM in ChatGPT without an account, with small limits. Sign in with Google for a free CiteLLM account with higher limits; paid plans go further. Ask ChatGPT to “check my CiteLLM allowance” to see yours.
Attach your PDF
Attach a PDF to your message and ChatGPT passes it to CiteLLM. If the file can’t be passed on, CiteLLM opens a picker in the chat where you select the PDF yourself.
Try it
- “Answer my questions about the attached PDF with highlighted citations.”
- “What were fiscal 2025 net sales and employee numbers in this 10-K? Cite the source for each.”
- “Compare the key terms in these two contracts, with citations.”
No PDF at hand? Try it with Apple’s fiscal 2025 Form 10-K (PDF, 2.3 MB).
ChatGPT reads the PDF and answers each question. CiteLLM finds the exact source passage and opens a viewer with every citation highlighted. Up to 20 PDFs and 100 answers per PDF fit in one review, and you can download a highlighted PDF or an evidence report.
Good to know
- CiteLLM confirms where each quotation appears. The assessment of each answer is ChatGPT’s, not an independent fact check.
- For calculated figures, ChatGPT shows the formula and CiteLLM highlights each input.
- Scanned PDFs need text recognition (OCR) before upload.
Your data
Only the PDFs you attach or select are sent to CiteLLM. They are private to you and deleted 30 minutes after upload by default, or sooner if you ask ChatGPT to delete them. PDFs used without signing in are never saved. See the privacy policy and terms.
